With this year’s election season already underway, we review ECM activity trends during past election cycles. The post-election landscape has historically proven to be fertile ground for heightened deal activity. On average, deal activity surged more than 50% in the years following elections.
Taking a closer look, the standout sectors in these post-election surges were Financial Services, Real Estate, and Healthcare, with Healthcare leading the charge in the last two cycles.
Examining activity by dollar volume reveals that the leading sectors remain the same, with the exception of 2021, where Technology led the increase in capital raised.
Will we see a similar upswing in ECM activity following this year’s election? Will the established sectors maintain their dominance, or will new frontrunners emerge?
